Getting Organized

February sits cozily between the time of new year’s resolutions and tax season. It is a great time to think forward toward that home renovation that’s been held back by Christmas, and the simple home organization solutions that make everyday storage easier.

Whether it’s the kitchen, bathroom, closet or garage, there are several simple solutions that make both storage and organization a long-term possibility.

Pull- Out Drawers

The kitchen is typically the most lived in space of the house, and as such, it is the space that is in most need of handy organization tools for storing the everyday things we use. Bottom cabinets can be replaced in a few key places with large pull-out drawers designed for ease of leverage when searching out the heavier pots and pans, or for ease of organization for chaotic containers.

Closet Inserts

Close behind the kitchen, bedroom closets are close in line in terms of organization. There never seems to be enough space for it all, and we cant all be like Marie Kondo — as much as we wish we could. Closet inserts are a simple way to update the organization of the closet. They come in various shapes, sizes and types, from shelves, to hanger racks, to laundry baskets. And even if the closet itself is not an option, there are closet cabinets that can be customized to fit around dressers and TV stands.

Spice/Toiletries Drawer

Almost as typical to a kitchen as the junk drawer is the spice cabinet, complete with the wobbly Lazy Susan turntable that is eternally getting stuck, and overflowing with spices that spill around it and invade the shelves above and below. Bathrooms have a similar problem, the drawers always full of little bottles of this makeup or face wash or lotion. Narrow, pull out drawers, ideal for storage of spices and toiletries are a wonderful way to keep those small, clutter prone objects contained to their own space.

Pantry Cabinet

Customizable floor to ceiling pantry cabinets are a bit of a godsend when it comes to food organization, especially for those homes that are not graced with walk-in pantries. They are a great way to increase storage without eating into the cabinet space in the main kitchen area, and help to control the organization of the space within.

Garage Solutions

Garages, usually thought of in an out-of-sight-out-of-mind kind of fashion, are where the things we can’t seem to get rid of, but can’t house anywhere else go for their final resting place. Tools, toys, holiday decorations, travel accessories, and other odds and ends find their way to this space, usually in the form of clutter.

Adding custom cabinets is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to garage organization, though they should not be forgotten as they provide a way to keep tools and other home maintenance implements organized and away from the dust, grease and debris that makes its way into the garage.

Ceiling racks are a great way to store boxes and storage tubs as well as suitcases, camping gear and other accessories necessary for outdoor play.

So, whether you’re doing the preparatory organization before spring time, or thinking ahead to tax return season, keep these simple solutions in mind for your next renovation.
